5 Healthy Habits to Try You're Probably Not Doing
As women, we are always gleaning wisdom from one another are we not? Where did you get that shirt?! How did you get her to breastfeed?! What do you use for your wrinkle cream?! What gym do you workout at?! So here are some of my regular practices that may be revelatory to you. Make sure you share yours with us below, too!
1.) Journal Every Day
Before you roll your eyes, this can look many different ways! Obvs, I love to write. I've been journaling at least weekly for the majority of my life. I usually write down highlights of life events, or Spiritual insights I get in prayer, dreams, or during time in the Word. If you're not much of a writer, it could be taking a daily photo and reflecting on it at the end of a day. It could be a goal of writing one sentence a day. It could be taking a screen shot of a Bible verse for your phone's home screen each week to memorize. Maybe you have a written planner, and it's reevaluating or "journaling" right next to your to-do list...
The point is life happens! And it doesn't slow down. Meditating on the Word of God, and taking a few minutes daily to reflect is essential to physical health by reducing stress levels, and soul health.
2.) Dry Saunas
Does your gym have a sauna? So does ours, and I've been giving it the stanky eye for the past five years! Until recently, while going through a cleanse, without much energy to pump iron I decided to sit it out in the sauna instead. Fifteen minutes later...I was a dripping mess. IT WAS AWESOME! My skin felt great & felt re-energized. After delving into further research, I've added this to my regular workout routine, 15-20 minutes after my workouts. I'm obsessed. There are so many benefits from healthy detox, weight loss, & heart health. Beware...sauna addiction ahead.
3.) Aloe Vera
I discovered the benefits of aloe vera supplements while working with a holistic medicine practitioner. Aloe vera juice in my opinion will be the next coconut oil. The stuff seems to have a remedy for it all, topically and internally. Here is a comprehensive list, here. Here is how I benefit from this juicy leaf almost daily...
I add it to my daily water bottle! Usually alongside a few tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. It keeps digestion flowing smoothly if you know what I mean. ;) It also adds a nice fresh taste to my water, think cucumbers. There are many different types of aloe on the market. Make sure whatever you purchase is for consumption! Trader Jo's has a affordable large gallon of aloe vera juice that can be added to water. Aloe gels are more concentrated and can be taken like a "shot", added to smoothies, or to water or juice.
4.) Ginger Tea
My tea drawer used to be quite diverse. Now? Not so much. Why diversify when you've found a favorite? This Yogi Ginger Tea is for true ginger lovers. It has a rich sweet ginger taste with lemon grass, peppermint and black pepper undertones. It's also caffeine free! I like to crush a bit of black pepper in my tea to add more of an exotic flavor. Not only is it delicious, ginger has SO MANY other great health benefits. Here's 22 of them! One of the biggies, aiding in digestion. Drink up!
5.) Coconut Oil Makeup Remover
This skin tip changed my life. A makeup artist devuldged one of her secrets while she was helping me get glam. Her skin was flawless, and I was asking her what her go-to skin care regimine was. Her answer? Coconut oil facial cleanser and make up remover! It sounded like one big blackhead waiting to happen, but I took her word and gave it a shot. Not only do I LOVE it as a makeup remover, I take a small pea sized amount and rub off any eye makeup, and remove with a cotton ball. I take another small dollop and massage into my face, and let sit 5-10 minutes. I allow to sit more time if I get carried away cleaning the kitchen or watching a movie before bed. The longer the better, then I get a hot washcloth, and steam my face, and rinse.
All traces of makeup are gone, and the coconut oil acts as a two for one moisturiser too! Sometimes I spray my face with some witch hazel as calming toner.
